Charlotte AR paralegal working with attorneyBest Wishes regarding your decision to enroll in paralegal studies near Charlotte AR and start your journey that will result in a rewarding profession in legal services. However, it’s important that you locate the right school so that you will receive the extensive training that you need to succeed. As you most likely understand, the legal field is one of the fastest growing occupations in the United States, and more and more academic options are becoming available, both at school and online. However with so many options to choose from, where does one begin? Some prospective students start by trying to find paralegal schools within commuting range of their Charlotte residences. Of those options, they try to find the program with the lowest tuition. Although cost and location are important considerations when choosing a college, they are not the only qualifiers you ought to consider. Things like the reputation and accreditation of the program need to be taken into consideration also. Later in this post we will review a list of concerns that you ought to ask prospective paralegal certificate schools so that you can examine and compare each one before making your decision. But before we do, let’s take a look at what a paralegal does and the instructional options that are offered to earn either a paralegal certificate or degree.

What is a Paralegal and What Do They Do?

Charlotte AR law libraryParalegals and legal assistants for the most part both fill comparable job roles and functions, only with different titles. However, legal secretaries are not the equivalent of either of those two positions and are part of a different job classification. Both paralegals and legal assistants assist attorneys in Charlotte AR with a diverse array of job duties, including maintaining client files, legal research, communicating with clients, and drafting legal documents. Their particular job functions are relevant to the type of practice where they work. For example, a legal assistant for a criminal law practice might help with trial logistics or transferring documents to court. In private practices, a paralegal’s work is normally billed by the hour as are the attorney’s. And just like lawyers, they must perform with a high level of professionalism and abide by a strict standard of professional ethics. As noted, their duties can be wide ranging in support of the practices where they work, but some of their everyday activities might involve:

  • Researching and fact checking cases
  • Researching related laws and cases
  • Composing correspondence and legal documents
  • Submitting legal papers with the court or opposing counsel
  • Helping attorneys prepare for trial and stay organized with their cases
  • Organizing and maintaining legal files, documents and additional records

With all of their responsibilities, the job of a Charlotte AR paralegal can be complicated and very demanding. On the other hand, what they are not legally authorized to do is provide legal counsel and advice or represent a client in a legal proceeding. But they are not limited to administrative or clerical duties more applicable to the job of a legal secretary. Paralegals truly are the right hand support systems for lawyers. And since they do so much of the legal preparation and ground work, lawyers are able to handle a much larger volume of cases or clients than they could otherwise.

Paralegal Education and Certification

law books and Charlotte AR judge's gavelAs we previously covered, paralegals are actually the same as legal assistants, with paralegals arguably having more professional sounding job titles. In any case, for either position the educational prerequisites and job prospects will be the same. The fastest way to launch your career in Charlotte AR as a paralegal is by earning a certificate, which may take just six months to accomplish. Many entry level positions do require an Associate’s Degree, which furnish a more comprehensive education and may be obtained at numerous community colleges in 2 years. And if you are interested in an even more extensive education, 4 year Bachelor’s Degrees are offered also. Once you have acquired either a degree or a certificate, you may want to continue and get a certification. Although it is not a mandatory requirement in Arkansas to practice as a paralegal, certification may not only help improve your job opportunities, but help establish you as a professional also. A few of the highly respected certifying agencies in the field are:

  • National Federation of Paralegal Associations
  • American Alliance of Paralegals
  • National Association of Legal Assistants
  • National Association for Legal Professionals

By graduating with a certificate or degree from an accredited school (we will cover the advantages of accreditation later) and obtaining a certification, you will have taken 2 essential first steps that will help ensure your success as a paralegal in Charlotte AR.

Paralegal Online Schools

attending paralegal school online in Charlotte AROnline paralegal schools have become more prevalent and can be a good alternative for individuals in Charlotte AR searching for convenient access to classes and flexible scheduling. Online programs can be particularly appealing to individuals who keep working while earning a degree. As an added benefit, online programs can in some cases be less costly than more traditional options. Even secondary expenses for such items as study materials or commuting may be reduced or eliminated. One caution, not all online programs are accredited, which we will address in greater detail later. But at a minimum accreditation helps guarantee that the education you obtain is of the highest quality. So check to make certain that the school and program you are looking into are accredited by a reputable organization, for example the American Bar Association. But if you are disciplined enough to study in a less structured and formal setting, then obtaining your degree or certificate online might be the ideal choice for you.

What to Ask Paralegal Studies Programs

Since you now you have a better understanding regarding what paralegals do and what academic choices are available, you can start the undertaking of assessing Charlotte AR area schools. But because there are numerous programs accessible at community and junior colleges, in addition to trade and vocational schools, you must know what questions to ask in order to compare each one. This is especially true if you include all of the online paralegal certificate and degree programs also. If you are like many potential students, you will start by searching for schools within commuting distance and then comparing their tuition. But as we have previously covered, there are other significant factors to consider as well, for instance accreditation and the reputation of the schools. So let’s take a look at a few of the questions you need to be asking the programs you are researching so that you can thoroughly vet each one and make your ultimate selection.

Is the Paralegal Program Accredited? The paralegal program and school that you choose should be accredited by a reputable accrediting agency such as the American Bar Association. If it is an online program, it can also obtain accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. Accreditation will not only certify that the training you will obtain will be of the highest quality, but it will show potential employers that you are a qualified professional as well. Numerous Charlotte AR law firms will only hire entry level paralegals that have graduated from an accredited program. Finally, financial assistance and student loans are often accessible only for accredited schools.

What’s the Program’s Reputation? Find out what the rankings and reputations are for the Charlotte AR paralegal programs you are looking at. This is of specific importance if you are new to the profession with no prior experience, since employers will need to make a decision based on the caliber of your education exclusively. Verifying that the program you choose is accredited is a good first step. Reviewing school rating services, such as those provided by U.S. News and World Report, can help verify school rankings and quality of education as well. You can also call some law firms that you may have an interest in working for after graduation and ask what schools they suggest. Keep in mind that even when a school is not among the most highly rated, its paralegal program could still have an exceptional reputation.

Does the Program Provide Internships? Internship programs offer students a chance to experience working in a law practice or other legal enterprise while attending school. They can also provide a means for students to start developing contacts within the Charlotte AR legal field. Ask if the paralegal schools you are evaluating provide internship programs, particularly in areas of the law that you have the most interest in pursuing upon graduation.

Is Job Placement Assistance provided? You will probably wish to hit the ground running after graduating, but getting that initial job in a new field can be difficult without assistance. Ask if the paralegal schools you are reviewing have job assistance programs and what their success rates are. High and rapid placement rates are an excellent indication that the schools have sizable networks and great relationships with Arkansas legal services employers. It also substantiates that their students are highly regarded and sought after.

Where is the School’s Location? Because laws vary from one state to another, it may be a good idea to choose a paralegal school domiciled in the state where you want to work after graduating. In addition, it will be valuable to build relationships in the neighboring legal community, perhaps by means of an internship program. This is all the more reason to receive your education in the community where you choose to practice. Also, if you go to classes at a community college, most require an increased tuition for students that live outside of their districts. So you might want to initially consider those colleges that are within your Charlotte AR local area.

What is the Complete Expense? Paralegal schools can differ in cost depending on the credential received and the length of training provided. However, tuition will not be the only cost for your training. Don’t forget to add the cost of books, supplies and commuting to classes to your budget also. Financial assistance may be obtainable to help reduce some of the cost, so be sure to check with the school’s financial aid office to find out what is available in Charlotte AR. Naturally if you choose to attend an online program, some of these added expenses, for instance for commuting, may be decreased or eliminated.

Do the Class Times Match your Schedule? Many paralegal students continue working while obtaining their training and need flexibility to schedule classes. If you can only attend night or weekend classes near Charlotte AR, verify classes are available at those times. Also, if you can only attend on a part-time basis, confirm that the school you select provides that option. Finally, ask what the protocol is for making-up classes missed due to work, illness or family obligations.

Considering Paralegal School in Charlotte AR?

AR Fox

Thomas James "TJ" Ballester[1] (born September 5, 1987),[2] better known by his ring name AR Fox, is an American professional wrestler, known for his work in promotions like Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), Dragon Gate USA, and Evolve. Fox has also worked for Dragon Gate in Japan, Full Impact Pro (FIP), where he won the 2011 Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup, and Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG). He currently also serves as the head trainer of the WWA4 wrestling school in Atlanta, Georgia.[8]

In 2007, Ballester turned his backyard wrestling hobby into a career in professional wrestling,[9] debuting after being trained by Curtis "Mr." Hughes at his World Wrestling Alliance 4 (WWA4) promotion's wrestling school in Atlanta, Georgia.[7] He later also underwent further training in WWE's developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW).[7] Originally working under the ring name "Ampliflyer", Ballester spent the next couple of years working minor promotions on the American independent circuit including WWA4 and Prime Time Pro Wrestling (PTPW).[10][11] Ballester eventually adopted the ring name "AR Fox", feeling that due to his small size, he needed to "outfox" his opponents to gain an advantage.[9]

Ballester, as AR Fox, made his debut for Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) on February 13, 2010, losing to Aaron Arbo in an "Opportunity Knocks" three-way match, which also included Unbreakable Andy.[12] After teaming with Chip Day in a tag team loss against Zero Gravity (Brett Gakiya and CJ Esparza) on March 27,[13] Fox picked up his first win in CZW on April 10, when he defeated Aaron Arbo and Unbreakable Andy in another three-way match.[14] Fox then entered a storyline, where it was rumored that CZW officials did not believe he had what it took to be a wrestler for the promotion.[2] On September 10, Fox defeated Alex Colon, Facade, Ricochet, Ruckus and tHURTeen in to win the Chris Cash Aerial Assault ladder match and become the number one contender to the CZW World Junior Heavyweight Championship.[15] However, he would go on to fail in his title challenge against Adam Cole on October 9.[16] After defeating Alex Colon on November 13,[17] Fox was granted another shot at the title on December 11, but was again defeated by Cole, following interference from his new manager, Mia Yim.[18] On March 12, 2011, Fox defeated Alex Colon and Ryan McBride in a three-way match to qualify for the Best of the Best X tournament.[19] He entered the tournament on April 9, but was eliminated by Sami Callihan in a first round three-way match, which also included Jake Crist.[20] Despite his early elimination, Fox earned praise from Callihan, who named him the "people's choice", giving him the People's Choice Award he had won himself.[20] This effectively ended the storyline, where CZW officials were doubting Fox's abilities.[2]

On April 10, 2011, Fox defeated Alex Colon, Jonathan Gresham, Ryan McBride, Ryan Slater and Ty Hagen in a six-way match to earn another shot at the CZW World Junior Heavyweight Championship.[21] On May 14, Fox faced Adam Cole for the third match between the two for the CZW World Junior Heavyweight Championship. After debuting his new finishing maneuver, Lo Mein Pain, Fox had the match won, when CZW owner DJ Hyde entered the ring and hit him with a lariat, leading to Cole retaining his title.[22] At the following event on June 11, Fox won his first title in CZW, when he defeated Drew Gulak for the CZW Wired TV Championship.[23] However, he would lose the title to Jake Crist in his first title defense on July 9.[24] On October 7, Fox received his first shot at the CZW World Heavyweight Championship, but was defeated by the defending champion, Devon Moore.[25] From November 5 to 12, Fox took part in a single-elimination tournament to determine the number one contender to the CZW World Junior Heavyweight Championship, in the end defeating Ryan McBride to win the tournament.[26][27] On December 3 at Cage of Death 13, Fox unsuccessfully challenged new World Junior Heavyweight Champion Sami Callihan for his title.[28][29]
