However, legal secretaries are not the same as either of those two positions and belong to a separate job category. In private practices, a paralegal’s work is normally billed hourly as are the attorney’s. And the same as lawyers, they must conduct themselves with a high level of professionalism and comply with a strict standard of professional ethics. So let’s go over a few of the questions you need to be asking the schools you are investigating so that you can properly vet each one and make your final decision.

Is the Paralegal School and Program Accredited? The paralegal school and program that you choose should be accredited by a recognized accrediting agency such as the American Bar Association. If it is an online school, it might also get accreditation from the Distance Education and Training Council, which targets distance or online education. Finally, financial assistance and student loans are often offered only for accredited schools.

What’s the Program’s Reputation? Find out what the reputations and rankings are for the Tonkawa OK paralegal schools you are contemplating. This is of particular importance if you are entering the profession with no prior experience, since employers will have to make a decision based on the quality of your education exclusively. Confirming that the school you select is accredited is a good first step. Checking school rating services, including those furnished by U.S. News and World Report, can help confirm school rankings and quality of education as well. You can also call a few law practices that you may be interested in working for after graduation and ask what schools they recommend. Keep in mind that even though a school is not the most highly ranked, its paralegal program may still have an outstanding reputation.

Does the Program Provide Internships? Internship programs give students an opportunity to experience working in a law practice or other legal operation while attending school. They can also offer a means for students to begin developing contacts within the Tonkawa OK legal field. Also, it will be important to build relationships in the area legal community, perhaps by means of an internship program. This is even more justification to receive your education in the community where you wish to practice. Also, if you attend classes at a community college, many require an increased tuition for students that live outside of their districts. So you may want to initially investigate those colleges that are within your Tonkawa OK local area.

How Much is the Total Expense? Paralegal schools can vary in cost based on the credential received and the length of training furnished.
